One of my earliest pieces about my transplant, Contemplation is an attempt to come to terms with my mortality. Living in a hospital for four months can make you grow up real quick. I saw things that most people that age shouldn’t have to see, and I was one of the oldest kids there. My mortality is a re-occuring theme in my work only because after being told you weren’t going to live long, you have no choice but to start thinking about it.
